Are you currently working on a startup or developing an idea for one? Tell us about it.
Yes, I am currently working on a startup called LocalBuzz, a platform designed to connect individuals, especially those with diverse hair types, to local hairstylists and barbers who specialize in their needs. Growing up, I often had to travel outside my city to find someone who understood my hair, and I realized this was a shared challenge for many others. LocalBuzz focuses on making discovery easier by allowing users to search based on services, location, pricing, and reviews. Beyond convenience, it is about building trust and creating a sense of community, while also helping stylists gain visibility and consistent clientts

I also see innovation as a continuous process of learning and growth. As I move forward in my career, I want to stay open to new ideas, adapt to change, and not be afraid to take risks. Why should someone be interested in joining the Start Something LAS Academy – even if they don’t want to start a business?
You do not have to want to start a business to benefit from Start Something. What you gain from the program goes far beyond entrepreneurship. It really shifts how you see yourself and what you are capable of. Start Something pushes you to think bigger, trust your ideas, and actually act on them. It gives you the confidence to speak up, take initiative, and not wait for permission to try something new. Those are skills that matter in any career and in life in general. It is also a space where you are surrounded by motivated and driven people, which naturally pushes you to grow. You start to realize that you are capable of more than you thought, and that mindset stays with you even outside of the program.
What advice would you give to someone who is interested in innovation, but doesn’t know where to start?
My biggest advice would be to not overthink it and just start somewhere. Innovation does not begin with a perfect idea, it usually starts with noticing something small and asking, “How could this be better?” I would also say do not be afraid to try something and get it wrong. A lot of growth comes from experimenting, adjusting, and continuing to move forward. The most important thing is building the confidence to act on your ideas. At the end of the day, innovation is not about having all the answers, it is about being willing to start, stay curious, and keep going.
